Being Effective in Missions
Beliefs are at the fundamental core of our value system. They come to us from highly trusted sources such as parents, religious leaders and other authority figures. Attitudes are a product of our beliefs. Opinions are at the fringe of our belief system and are the least stable. Our opinions change as our attitude changes as a result of changes in our beliefs. This is why it is important for our beliefs to be based on the unchanging Word of God.
In being the missionaries God has called each of us to be, the point is not to try to convert those individuals who have hostile opinions, because we can't. Before their opinion can be changed they have to have an attitude change which comes from a change in beliefs. The best we can hope for is to prevent them from reaching the uninformed before we or our allies do. This is why being a missionary every day is important.
Everywhere we go we should be on the lookout for reaching to someone with the love of God.
Could it be that as we reach to that person on our job or at the store, God will send someone to reach to our lost loved one? let us be the missionary to Nacogdoches County God has called us to be and watch what God will do with our efforts to reach souls all over the world!
--Sis. Sharon Ziriak
Mission Dept. Director
The Missions Department of Apostolic Lighthouse is not focused solely on the need in other countries or areas but includes in the focus our own area of Nacogdoches County. What good have we done if we reach all the souls in other nations and fail to reach out to our neighbor next door, our co-worker on the job or the student sitting next to us in class? Acts 1:8 is instructions from Jesus telling the disciples they would be witnesses but the first location mentioned was at Jerusalem which was the city where the Holy Ghost was first given. He then broadened the focus to include Judea which could be likened to our state. He further extended it to the neighboring area around Judea known as Samaria and ended with including the uttermost part of the earth. Our mission field is all around us and we must look unto the fields and realize they are white, all ready to harvest. Who knows . . . the next person you bring to church could be the one God needs to send to the utter most part of the earth. We've got to keep doing our part!
The goals for the Missions Dept. is to be sure everyone is aware of the need for missions at SFA, in the Nacogdoches area and overseas. It is important that we begin our outreach at home, but not lose sight of the needs beyond our borders. "...Lift up our eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." John 4:35
